Tucson Mensa

| To be useful, this web site must fulfill two primary duties: To act as an
outreach tool to show people who are not yet members a little about who we are and what we
do, and to be an information resource for members as well as members-to-be.
Obviously, those functions must be balanced against our membership's reasonable
expectations of privacy. The Tucson Mensa web page has always met all of the
guidelines established by the Mensa International Cyberspace Committee, and in
some areas, even exceeds that entity's privacy standards, as well as those of most other
local Mensa groups. First and foremost, personal information such as addresses or phone numbers will not be listed here. Period! If such information is included in the body of a column or article submitted for publication, it will be edited out of any version posted on this site. If you would like your mailing address, phone number, and/or other personal information made available through the Tucson Mensa web site, you may post such information on your own personal or business web site, and specifically request that a link to that site be added to our Links page. Likewise, personal or business e-mail addresses will be posted only on the specific request of the addressee. So that public availability can be maintained without requiring the disclosure of personal e-mail addresses, I have set up a "re-mail" contact form for Tucson Mensa officers and other volunteers who's job requirements include a communication channel open to our membership and others. (Note: since American Mensa Ltd. began offering "office" e-mail aliases, this form became redundant and is no longer used. -Scott 1/3/2001) As an extension of the above, any online version of our activities schedule will not contain contact phone numbers, addresses, or directions to any event held in a member's home. If I am contacted by any person who expresses a desire to attend such an event, I will forward the interested person's contact info so that the host of the event may contact them directly. In addition, any event host may request that their event be omitted from the online schedule. Any column, article, feature, cartoon, etc. submitted for publication in the Tucson Mensun may also appear in the Mensun "excerpts" page unless the author specifically requests otherwise. Although member's names aren't generally listed for no reason, authors are credited for submissions to the Mensun (of course), people may be mentioned in descriptions or other reports of recent events or for other reasons, and officers and event hosts may be listed. Inclusion on a web page of just a name with no other identifying personal information is generally considered by all experts to be pretty benign. However, in special circumstances, sometimes even this can be objectionable to some people. No problem! If you have any such concerns, please let me know! There are options available to mask any name or other character string from search engines, an "online" alias can be used, or the name can be omitted altogether. For more information on these policies, please e-mail the webmaster.
